Art has been a constant thread throughout my life, from a school subject that I really enjoyed and that genuinely inspired me, to something I've always pursued, exploring different mediums and techniques along the way.
My mediums of choice are acrylic paint and soft pastels, as I feel these suit my style of painting best. I love the vibrancy and immediacy of both, but I also enjoy variety and experimenting with different mediums and mixed media, as each brings something different to your artwork and you can always learn something new.
Subject-wise, landscapes and seascapes are a particular passion of mine, but I'm equally drawn to animals, birds, flowers, and the natural world in general. Much of my work is generated from photographs, using my own images where possible, or those shared by friends and family. I am constantly looking at the world around me for inspiration and enjoy painting anything that connects to real places and real moments in time that matter to me, or to others.
A background in photography, that included a City & Guilds qualification, and spending many a happy hour developing black and white prints in a homemade darkroom in my garage, has shaped the way I see the world. Light, composition and atmosphere inform everything I put onto canvas or paper.
Having recently stepped back from work, I am now dedicating real time to what I love most — producing new work, deepening my skills, and taking on commissions. I am an active member of both Tadworth Art Group and Epsom and Ewell Art Group, which keeps me learning, challenged, and connected to a wider creative community. As a member of these groups, I take part in various exhibitions throughout the year, which enables me to showcase my work and be inspired by my fellow artists.
Wider travel and cultural experience, including seven years living in Hong Kong and travelling around South-East Asia, has given me a particular appreciation for different cultures, environments, light, and the beauty and impact of different places. That sense of paying attention to what is in front of you is what I try to bring to every piece.
I welcome commission enquiries and offer a selection of limited edition prints. If you'd like to discuss a project or a place that matters to you, I'd love to hear from you.
